Communication is an Art

An Art of Excellence by Sarah Kay

SARAH KAY is a New Yorker, a poetry writer and reader, a spoken word poetry teacher.  A performing poet since she was 14 years old, Sarah Kay is the founder of Project VOICE, an organization that uses spoken word poetry as a literacy and empowerment tool.

"If I should have a daughter, instead of Mom, she's gonna call me Point B ... " began spoken word poet Sarah Kay, in a talk that inspired two standing ovations at TED2011. She tells the story of her metamorphosis — from a wide-eyed teenager soaking in verse at New York's Bowery Poetry Club to a teacher connecting kids with the power of self-expression through Project V.O.I.C.E. — and gives two breathtaking performances of "B" and "Hiroshima."

Her Famous Quotes:

“I want [my daughter] to look at the world through the underside of a glass-bottom boat, to look through a microscope at the galaxies that exist on the pinpoint of a human mind.”

“When you open your hands to catch and wind up with only blisters and bruises; when you step out of the phone booth and try to fly and the very people you want to save are the ones standing on your cape; when your boots will fill with rain, and you'll be up to your knees in disappointment. And those are the very days you have all the more reason to say thank you. Because there's nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it's sent away.”

  1. The body language and the pronunciation of Sarah Kay is way above that of a usual person. I just love the way in which she engages the audience. Wish we could invite her to our college for a talk.

  2. Its really a wonderful quotes from Sarah. It applies to modern materialistic days of 21 century where you need to do keep on help others whether they neglect or accept you or whether they like you because you are doing good for them. Its nothing more than what Krishna told in Bhagavat Gita! Do things without expectations!.
